David Boies attended college at the University
of Redlands and law school at Northwestern and Yale. He received
a B.S. degree from Northwestern in 1964, his LL.B. magna cum
laude from Yale in 1966, his LL.M. from New York University
1967, and an LL.D. from the University of Redlands in 2000.
From
1966 through 1972 Mr. Boies was an associate, and from 1973
through 1977 and from 1980 through
May 1997 Mr. Boies
was a partner, with Cravath, Swaine & Moore. In May 1997
Mr. Boies resigned as a partner of Cravath and founded the
predecessor of Boies, Schiller & Flexner.
Mr. Boies is the
author of numerous publications including Public Control of
Business, published by Little Brown in
1977. Mr. Boies has taught courses at New York University
Law School and Cardozo Law School. Mr. Boies served as Chief
Counsel and Staff Director of the United States Senate Antitrust
Subcommittee in 1978 and Chief Counsel and Staff Director
of the United States Senate Judiciary Committee in 1979.
In 1991-1993, Mr. Boies was counsel to the Federal Deposit
Insurance Corporation in its litigation to recover losses
for failed savings and loan associations, and in 1998-2000
Mr. Boies served as Special Trial Counsel for the United
States Department of Justice in its antitrust suit against
Microsoft. Mr. Boies also served as the lead counsel for
former Vice-President Al Gore in connection with litigation
relating to the election 2000 Florida vote count. In 2004,
Mr. Boies obtained a defense verdict on behalf of Lloyds
of London and other insurers in the World Trade Center trial.
Mr.
Boies is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a fellow of the American
College of Trial Lawyers, a fellow of the International
Academy of Trial Lawyers and a trustee of St. Luke's/Roosevelt
Hospital Medical Center. Mr. Boies has won numerous awards
and honors, including Time magazine runner-up Man of the
Year in 2000 and the National Law Journal's Lawyer of the
Year in 1999 and 2000. Mr. Boies is admitted to practice
in New York. |
