A former Justice Department official and federal prosecutor, Mr. Jaso has extensive experience in a diverse range of government service and private practice. His main practice area is complex litigation, focusing on commercial litigation, False Claims Act cases and appellate matters. Mr. Jaso also represents clients in criminal matters, government investigations, and internal corporate investigations.

After graduating from law school, Mr. Jaso clerked for the Hon. Alice M. Batchelder of the Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. From 1995 to 1997, he served as an Associate Independent Counsel in the “Whitewater” investigation in Little Rock, Arkansas. There, he worked on two jury trials (one of which led to the convictions of the sitting Governor of Arkansas and two Whitewater partners), several appeals, and several investigative matters. From 2001 to 2002, Eric served as a Deputy General Counsel in the U.S. Department of Education, where he focused on postsecondary education, regulatory issues, and related litigation.

In March 2002, Mr. Jaso was appointed Counselor to then-Assistant Attorney General Michael Chertoff in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. where he worked primarily on legislation and policy. During that time, he was involved in the development, passage, and implementation of major laws such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the Protect Act and the Patriot Act, as well as significant Justice Department policy, including the Thompson memorandum on corporate prosecutions and implementation of the Corporate Fraud Task Force.  He also represented the Justice Department ex officio on the U.S. Sentencing Commission, advocating the Department’s policy on criminal sentences in key areas such as white-collar crime and terrorism.

Between 2003 and March 2008, Mr. Jaso worked as an Assistant United States Attorney in Newark, New Jersey. He handled a variety of criminal cases in the Appeals Division as well as in the Criminal Division, Securities and Health Care Fraud Unit. He conducted a two-month securities fraud jury trial of the former CEO and CFO of a publicly traded company, which resulted in convictions of both defendants on all counts.  He also investigated and convicted a sophisticated hacker of commercial websites who caused significant disruption to Internet service in the Philadelphia area.

Mr. Jaso obtained the conviction of an individual who filed a seven-figure claim with the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, falsely claiming to have been injured in the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center. He investigated and convicted doctors who committed Medicare fraud. Mr. Jaso has also presented a number of oral arguments before federal Courts of Appeals.

After leaving government service in 2008, Mr. Jaso joined Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP as Counsel in the firm’s New Jersey office.  Mr. Jaso’s private-practice experience also includes three years at Latham & Watkins in Newark, New Jersey, where he worked on criminal and civil matters as well as corporate internal investigations. He began his legal career with Cravath, Swaine and Moore in New York City, where he focused on civil antitrust cases.

Mr. Jaso currently serves in the leadership of the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey (Chair, By-Laws Committee), the New Jersey Lawyers’ Chapter of the Federalist Society (Board of Advisors), and the John C. Lifland American Inn of Court (Master).  He also has taught Appellate Advocacy as an Adjunct Professor at Seton Hall University Law School.
